Welcome to Wallaroo Preschool Centre

We welcome you to our Wallaroo Preschool community and hope your time with us will be a positive and enjoyable experience.

At Wallaroo Preschool we believe relationships are integral to building an environment that best meets the needs of our young learners. We know families are the most important people in their children’s lives, which is why we work hard to build confidence and trust between families and educators to work together to provide the best outcomes for children.

Our responsive and nurturing pedagogy, alongside our intentionally designed learning spaces will offer a place for children to not only celebrate the joy of being a kindy child, but also the opportunity to grow and build upon their current skills and abilities.

Within our programs and preschool culture, we place an intentional emphasis on inclusivity and supporting all children to thrive.

Beach Kindy, where children visit our local beach fortnightly, adds to our enriching opportunities for children’s development as well as connecting with our wonderful community on Nharangga Land.

When will my child attend preschool?

Government preschools have two major enrolment intakes each year, where children are eligible to access 4 terms of their full preschool entitlement (15 hours per week).

Children who turn 4 years before May 1st of any given year, are eligible to begin Preschool at the beginning of that year (intake 1). Children who turn 4 between May 1st and October 31st are eligible Eligible to start 15 hours per week from term 3 of the same year (intake 2).

Children who turn 4 after 31st October are eligible to begin preschool the following year.

Children residing in the local Wallaroo area will be given priority to enrolment at Wallaroo Preschool Centre.

Please note:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are eligible to attend from 3 years old.
  • Children who have been or are in care, are eligible to attend preschool after their 3rd birthday.

In these circumstances, a child may be enrolled at any time after their 3rd birthday and attend our preschool program for an average of 12 hours per week.

If you have any concerns regarding your child’s development please contact the Centre as we may be eligible to attend early entry sessions at preschool.

Enrolling your child at our preschool

The process of enroling children into preschool commences almost one year before they begin preschool, so it is essential we have your child’s name on our future enrolment list as soon as possible.

Please complete and return our ‘Preschool Registration of Interest‘ form (this can be completed several years in advance) if your child is eligible to attend our centre in the future.

‘Registration of Interest’ forms must be returned to preschool by no later than six months prior to your child being eligible to begin preschool.

We will then post further enrolment information two terms prior to your child starting preschool.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Testimonials

“Thank you so much for welcoming my child into kindy this year. He absolutely loves kindy days and we have noticed a huge improvement in his speech and communication already. I can’t thank you all enough. We owe you all so much for helping him reach these new goals and milestones.”

-Family thank you card, 2016.

“It is fantastic that it is well recognised at Wallaroo Preschool that children’s learning for this age group is not just about ‘academic’ reading and writing but that it is also about social skills, independence, co-operating, communicating clearly etc.”

-Parent Opinion Survey, 2015

“I love making butterflies at kindy. We hang the butterflies on the rope. The pulley is on the top. We put the buckets on the rope and it goes up and down”.

-Preschool Child 2016

“Congratulations on your recent assessment and rating outcome. The outcome is a reflection of your leadership and the high quality service provided by the kindergarten to children and families.”

-Marina Elliot, Director, Early Learning, Partnerships and Planning DECD, 2015

“The environment was inspiring with many provocations to provoke children’s curiosity and thinking. The intentionality of your environment was obvious with many literacy and numeracy opportunities evident especially around oral language, mark making and reading.”

– Amanda Narroway, ECL NY Partnership, February 2020

“Your educators are really what makes your centre shine. You have all been incredibly amazing and all seem so genuine in your care, values and compassion for the children there. Thank you to you all. I will always be proud that my daughter attended Wallaroo Preschool.”

-Family comment 2019

“Thank you for creating such a warm, welcoming place for our child to complete his preschool year. It has been such a positive experience for him and he has grown into a curious, imaginative boy, thanks to the kind, caring Wallaroo Staff. Your calm manner has created an environment where our child has felt comfortable to be himself and take risks.”

-Kindy family thank you card 2022

“On behalf of the Early Years Curriculum Development Team, I would like to say thank you to you and your team for providing us with the opportunity to have a site visit.  We truly appreciated how willing your site was to share current teaching and learning experiences and to discuss the use of the preschool curriculum resources.  As a team we have found the site visits inspiring, and we are now taking the time to reflect on what we have learnt and how this can best inform future decisions.”
